Once you've had a baby, most new Moms have one
pressing question when they look in the mirror. When, oh
God when, am I ever going to get my old waist line back?

The waist lines of most women who deliver single births
expand to a over 50 inches during pregnancy.  Given that
the
recommended waist line for optimal health is 24 inches
for women of average height
, that means that most women
have a formidable task of losing 26 inches. Delivering the
baby reduces the waist line about 16 inches but,a s most
women discover to our dismay, even after the bundle of
joy is out of our bodies, the fat around our middle can be
the most difficult "afterbirth" to deliver.

Research has found that the following tips are most
effective in helping you to regain your pre-pregnancy waist
line:

1.
Nursing. According to research , nursing helps more
quickly to return women to pre-pregnancy weight ranges.
Nursing itself is a calorie-burning exercise, consuming
almost 350 calories per day on average.

2.
Avoid White Foods. You have to reduce the layer of fat
on your stomach through dieting. You should limit the
white foods you eat (white bread, white rice, pasta and
potatoes). The reason you do is because these foods, and
sugar of course, trigger your appetite and cravings.

3.
Move.  At the same time, you need to exercise, both
cardio and weight training. For cardio, it doesn't so much
matter what you do as that you move, vigorously, for at
least an hour a day. Dancing, jumping rope, walking briskly
(with or without baby in a stroller ), and of course jogging
are all good choices.

4.
Lift Weights --Mommy Muscles. Lift weights as much as
you can. Some of that comes naturally, of course, since
lifting a 7 to 10 pound baby and carrying her around is a
form of weight training. But you have to do more than use
your natural "Mommy muscles".  For weight training, you
should do at least 50 crunches a day, squats every other
day and push-ups. These will build lean muscle mass and
burn the fat all over your body, including around your
waist. Research has found that building such lean muscle
mass is really the hidden secret to why most us gain weight
as we get older. Our
metabolism slows down because we
just don't have enough muscle mass.
