THE BEST MEDICINEf-
LAUGH!

FIRST DOSE
There are always two ways
to look at everything, I
guess. My wife and I were
sitting at a table at my
high school reunion last
October, and I kept staring
at a drunken lady swigging
her drink as she
sat alone at a nearby
table. My wife noticed me
staring and asked me, "Do
you know her?".

"Yes",
I sighed, "She's my old
girlfriend. I understand she
took to drinking right after
we split up those
many years ago, and I
hear she hasn't been sober
since." "My God!" says my
wife, "Who would
think a person could go on
celebrating that long?"

SECOND DOSE
Last night, my friend and I
were sitting in the living
room and
I said to her, "I never want
to live in a vegetative
state, dependent on
some machine and fluids
from a bottle. If that ever
happens, just pull the
plug."

She got up, unplugged the
TV, and threw out my wine

What causes dark circles under my eyes? And how I get rid of
dark circles under my eyes?  These are questions almost
everyone has faced at some point in their lives.

What Causes Dark Circles Under Your Eyes?

Dark circles are caused by tiny capillaries under the eyes.
According the Mayo Clinic, dark circles under eyes usually are
temporary and not a medical concern.

Surprisingly, fatigue is not the most common cause of dark
circles. What is?

Nasal Congestion Causes Dark Eye Circles

Nasal congestion is the number one cause of dark circles under
the eyes.
That's right.  Your stuffy nose may be giving you dark
circles.   When your nose is congested, veins and capillaries
that usually drain from your eyes into your nose become
widened (dilated) and darker.

Because the skin under the eyes is unusually thin compared to
the other skin on your body and face, the drainage (sometimes
inaccurately referred to as "leaking capillaries) is more
noticeable.

Another cause of under-eye circles is eyelid swelling during
sleep. Article continues below.

Gravity
When you lie down, gravity can cause fluid to collect in your
lower eyelids. This swelling may create the appearance of
shadows below your eyes. In addition, dark circles can result
from chronic skin conditions, such as atopic eczema. Dark
circles can also run in families.

Skin Creams
Over-the-counter products may help diminish dark circles
under eyes. Look for skin creams that contain vitamin C or K,
alpha hydroxy acid and kinetin.  Treatment for chronic and
severe undereye circles is directed at the underlying cause, if
known, and may include bleaching agents and laser therapy.

Cucumbers and Potato Slices

Cucumbers and potato slices (which have been cooled in the
refrigerator) placed over the eyes in the mornings can reduce
the puffiness darkness around the eyes.

Nutrition

Anemia can cause dark circles. A multi-vitamin with iron usually
is effective in treating anemia.  Foods high in iron include
broccoli, spinach and red meat (here watch the intake because
of the
cholesterol and stroke risk).

Sleep-- Aim for High Quality

Continuous sleep for at least 8 hours is not only essential to
health, reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke, but also
increasing mental alertness and elevating our moods.  Lack of
sleep can cause dark circles as well. If you are having trouble
sleeping,
these tips may help you.

Because, as we have seen, congestion is the number one
reason for dark circles, the most effective thing you can do to
get rid of dark circles is to relieve congestion.

Here are some tips for relieving congestion.

Tips for Relieving Congestion

1. Reduce Milk and Dairy. Milk and other dairy foods produce
mucous which can cause or aggravate congestion. Use soy
products if you are congested.

2. Allergies. You may be allergic to something in your
environment or a food. If you can afford it, have your allergies
diagnosed. If you can't afford a diagnosis, try vacuuming and
cleaning all surfaces in your home extremely well, especially the
bed pillows and covers. And always shower when you enter
your home from the outside at the end of your work day --it
helps to knock down the level of pollen you bring into the
house.

3. Dust. Eliminate rugs-- that collect dust and mites wherever
you can in your home. Mop under the beds and dressers where
dust can collect.

4. Pets. If you have cats or long-haired dogs, they could be
causing your congestion. Wash them frequently-- yes, cats
must be groomed as well as dogs. You might consider a
lightweight cat or dog apparel to help control the shedding
around your home.
