Want to lower your risk of heart disease and stroke?  Drink tea.

The belief that tea boosts your health appears to be true.
According to a research study published in 2007 by the
National Institutes of Health , consumption of black tea con
reduce the levels of the kind of inflammation that causes heart
disease and stroke by 20%.  Even more remarkable is that this
drop occurred after only six weeks of tea drinking.

The
study by scientists at the Department of Epidemiology and
Public Health at University College London found that six weeks
of black tea consumption reduced C-reactive protein levels
from .96 to .76, a reduction of 20%.

"Chronic tea consumption reduces platelet activation and
plasma C-reactive protein in healthy men.", the research team
concluded.  "These effects of tea may contribute to sustained
cardiovascular health".

There are many health benefits of drinking tea. Tea reduces
inflammation throughout the body. The role of
inflammation in
causing a widespread number of fatal diseases --heart disease,
stroke, cancer-- is only now becoming better understood.
Sugar and lifestyle choices which increase inflammation
increase your overall risk of developing this deadly trio of
disease.

Eating foods that lower inflammation, reducing sugar intake,
and
exercising are like buying a blanket of protection against
early death.

Tea also appears to relax the body. Drinking non-caffeinated,
herbal  tea before bedtime helps to induce a
restful sleep.  Teas
which contain peppermint may also help to reduce nasal
congestion, which is one of the primary causes of snoring . This
is vitally important because
snoring has been linked to stroke.
Snoring has been shown in studies to increase your risk of
suffering a stroke by 67%.

Why You Should Not Mix Tea With Milk

However, if you want to improve your heart health by drinking
tea, you should be careful not to mix it with milk, according to
one study. A 2007 study from Charité-Universitätsmedizin
Berlin, Germany found that tea's healthful effects on your heart
are "completely blunted" by the effects of tea. As the study
concluded: "Milk counteracts the favourable health effects of
tea on vascular function".
