If You’re Tired You May Have an Undiagnosed Urinary
Tract Infection

Your most common symptoms are going to be burning when
peeing and an urgency to visit the restroom but fatigue is
also a symptom of urinary tract infections. In fact,
sometimes it is the only symptom. If you suspect an
infection, get a test at the doctor and you’ll usually receive
antibiotics that will also shift your fatigue.

Natural remedies for tiredness caused by a urinary tract
infection include quercetin and cranberries. Quercetin, the
bioflavonoid, is believed to have anti-inflammatory powers
that help treat infections of the urinary tract. According to a
2001 study from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, UCLA School
of Medicine, California 500mg of quercetin twice a day for
four weeks was clinically effective for treating interstitial
cystitis. A 2002 study from the University of British
Columbia, Vancouver, Canada found both cranberry juice
and cranberry tablets significantly reduced the frequency of
urinary tract infections in 150 women. If you are tired and
you don’t know the reason, try 8 ounces of cranberry juice
three times a day to see how it helps.

An Underactive Thyroid Can Cause Fatigue

If you’re feeling consistently tired, sluggish, fed up and run
down, you could have a thyroid problem. Fatigue is a
symptom of an
underactive thyroid, also called
hypothyroidism.

Your thyroid is a small gland at the base of your neck and it
controls your metabolism. The American Thyroid Foundation
says that by the age of 60 around 17 percent of all women
will suffer from a thyroid disorder. Most of us won’t even
know it.

To remedy an
underactive thyroid, try a diet low in
carbohydrates, fats and sugars and eat lean meat and fish
instead of fatty, processed meats. If you are tired due to
hypothyroidism, try supplementation with zinc. A 1990 study
from the University G d'Annunzio, Chieti, Italy discovered
zinc improved the thyroid function in 50 percent of patients
and helped prevent chronic underactive thyroid – and
chronic tiredness.

Diabetes Can Make You Feel Tired

Feeling tired is one of the most common symptoms of
diabetes.

If you have diabetes, high levels of sugar stay in your blood
rather than moving into your cells where it is used for
energy. Consequently, you may be eating enough and
sleeping enough but you still feel exhausted. A test for
diabetes will enable you to see if you have the condition. If
you do, managing your diabetes with diet and exercise will
increase your health and prevent tiredness.

Be careful – it’s not good enough to increase your levels of
sugar to give yourself an energy boost. Sugar is quick
energy when it’s consumed in processed foods, candy and
chocolate. Keep your blood sugar levels stable with healthy
snacks that contain complex carbohydrates and low-fat
protein. (Read about

Fatigue : A Symptom of Undiagnosed Heart Disease

Don’t panic, but you should visit the doctor if you start to
feel overwhelmingly exhausted after tasks that used to be
easy.

If you suffer intense fatigue after doing yard work, or just
walking the kids to school you may be suffering from heart
disease. Yawning isn’t a sign you’re going to have a heart
attack in the next few days – tiredness is usually down to
something less serious.

But 1993 research from the University of Limburg,
Maastricht, The Netherlands found that 63% women
hospitalized with a myocardial infarction were exhausted
before being admitted to hospital. A 1994 study from the
same university concluded that "vital exhaustion" – a state
characterized by fatigue, increased irritability and a feeling of
demoralization – continued to be a valuable predictor of
cardiac events. (Read more about the

Bonus Tips:

11.
Fibromyalgia.  Fibromyalgia is usually associated with
pain. But did you know that the second most common
symptom of fibromyalgia is abnormal fatigue, according to a
2010 survey reported  in the journal "BMC Musculoskeletal
Disorders" . Over 43% of all fibromyalgia sufferers
experience fatigue, and many of those experience
overwhelming, disabling fatigue.  (Read more about
fibromyalgia and the ideal diet to reduce symptoms.)

12.
Adrenal Fatigue. If you wake up tired, the cause could be
adrenal fatigue.  Adrenal fatigue is caused by stress but can
often be helped by changes in your diet. (Read more about
natural remedies for adrenal fatigue.)
